UChicago at Sunrise

On January 19, the Shotosnap team met up at Knapp Center for Biomedical Discovery rooftop to catch the 7:15 a.m. sunrise. As hard as it was to wake up on a windy, Saturday morning, the view was definitely worth waking up for.

Before the taking photos, we first had to play with our camera settings to prepare for the upcoming sunrise.

Third-year Alfredo has been to the Knapp rooftop before, so he had an idea of what kind of angles and views he wanted to capture.

The menacing sunrise looming over Hyde Park.

Andrew, a third-year Biology major, has also been to the rooftop with Alfredo several times before to take pictures.

Kuviasungnerk Kangeiko ("KUVIA") Winter Festival!

Kuviasungnerk Kangeiko ("KUVIA") Winter Festival!
For the past 30 years, at the start of every winter quarter, UChicago students have braved cold weather and pre-dawn wake-ups to attend Kuvia, a week-long festival founded by Sociology Professor Don Levine. Students gather at Henry Crown Field House every morning at 6 a.m. for calisthenics and workshops led by RSOs ranging from Raas to Crew. On the last morning of Kuvia, student trek to the Point to salute the rising sun. Students who attend every morning are rewarded with a coveted Kuvia shirt to celebrate their efforts.
